      • Harvesting  the Legacy

Ronni was born and schooled in South Africa. She went to university in Israel where she received a BA in Fine Arts. She lived on a Kibbutz for 12 years moving to the city of Haifa before emigrating to Australia in 1988 with her family.

Ronni has been in the event industry for 20 years, most recently running her own company Ronni Kahn Event Designs (RKED).  Ronni has recently been awarded the Australian of the Year Local Hero 2010 in the Australian of the Year Awards 2010.

OzHarvest began when Ronni Kahn, founding director, decided that she was not prepared to be part of the waste cycle that is a natural outcome of the hospitality industry. Being a part of this industry for over 20 years she had seen a lot of food wasted. So she spent time researching options for dealing with the excess food. There was no organisation in Sydney that could collect the food on a regular and professional basis so Ronni decided to set up a food rescue charity herself.

Backed by The Macquarie Group Foundation which provided funds and Goodman International which provided a van and office space, OzHarvest was established and collected its first meal in November 2004.
Since then, we have now delivered over 5 1/2 million meals to people in need.

      • Defying the Odds

She's not yet out of university but Carly Garard already runs two companies with offices in Australia and China. The 22-year-old University of Wollongong student is one of the few young women to have made their mark in the construction industry.

Raised in Alice Springs in a single-parent family, her mother died from cancer when she was just 12 years old. She spent the rest of her childhood with her maternal grandparents in Liverpool. But at 18, when she received an inheritance from her mother, her sharp business mind came into play. Pointed in the right direction by an uncle who worked in construction, Ms Garard invested $250,000 in a tower crane and set up the company Deedy, named after her mum, Denise.

      • Positive Leadership

This presentation introduces a relatively recent area of psychology known as ‘positive psychology’. Positive psychology looks at rebalancing the emphasis of psychology from ‘what is wrong’ to ‘what is right’ – i.e. looking at individual and organisational strengths, rather than weaknesses.

The mantra of positive psychology can be applied to many different fields, including health, education and leadership. The current presentation focuses on using positive psychology strategies in leadership to help organisations flourish and/or succeed. The presentation also looks at how we can live a positively deviant lifestyle and examines different ways we can improve wellbeing and positive emotion in our own lives.
      • Moral Decision Making under Duress - The Leadership Challenge

During this workshop, participants will explore the possibility of transferring skills learnt in ‘game play’ into everyday conflict resolution situations. This innovative ‘games-centred’ approach uses the four ways of ‘Doing Battle’ outlined in The Art of War- Sun Tzu (500BC) to overcome adversity, negotiate conflict and influence others. This is a physically active workshop and participants will need to wear closed shoes and a shirt (No thongs or singlets).

It also examines the moral decision making dilemmas faced by leaders and individuals when in physiological states of duress. This workshop examines the steps needed to be taken to overcome these states in order to be an effective and influential leader.

      • One Egg One World – Growing into Leadership

1egg1world is a unique fundraising initiative like no other. CJ and Finchy, along with their friend Josh, decided to adopt the age old art of up-trading in order to turn something as small as an egg into $1 million for charity.

The boys were house-mates whilst studying Architecture at uni and turned to their chickens for inspiration on how to make a difference in this world. They hoped that the 1egg1world project would show people that you don’t need to have much in order to make a difference.

The boys are planning to launch 1egg1world as a global project, raising money so that they can begin their own sustainable projects that will deal with issues in a holistic approach. They want these projects to be conscious of health, poverty and environmental issues.

      • Generation Change: Why we’re the ones we’ve been waiting for

It is safe to assume that you are at this conference because you want to 'change the world'; whether socially or through your interest, passion or discipline of studies, but are we ready to change the status quo and make that move to become a change maker? What does "change the world" mean anyway?

We live in a system where we are manufactured and packaged to be ordinary - you finish high school, enter university, get drunk, become an activist and change maker, volunteer, collect certificates, awards, experiences and recognitions that look good on your CV, make lots of friends and build your networks, party hard, finish university, get a job and settle in a well-paid job. It's about time we shift that status quo.

In this workshop, we will look at what change really means. We will take a look at how we can change the world and how to be a linchpin and indispensable. We will listen to stories and explore our own, and we will look at what does our unique multi-intelligence mean to the world. We will write our own manifesto to always be awesome and spread awesomeness.
